Dr. Xijun Yan, Chief Pharmacist, is currently the President and CEO of Tasly Pharmaceuticals Inc. He is also an appointed expert for China Central Government. During his career, he has won the numerous awards including the United Nation’s "Ambassador of Peace", National Excellence Award in medical industry, and National Award for Excellent Entrepreneur. His expertise is in the development of modern Chinese medicine with many publications in this field.

Dr. Yan founded the Tasly Group in 1994 with about $1.5 million, which now grew into a holding company with 11 subsidiaries. Indeed, its revenue in 2000 has reached over $50 million. The Tasly Pharmaceuticals Inc., one of its subsidiaries, is working with National Security Commission to list on the national stock market. In addition, Tasly Pharmaceuticals is the first Chinese company to file an IND to FDA and gained its approval in 1997, and now is conducting multi-center clinical trials.

Abstract: The modernization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has captured the worldwide attention is also the focus of this presentation. China, as its origin of TCM, has the biggest TCM market. The development of TCM in China is facing several unique challenges and opportunities. A detailed analysis of the current industry trend and competitive environment will be presented. In addition, a thorough review of the recent successful TCMs will also be shared. Furthermore, the acceptance of TCM in the rest of world has grown significantly. The benefit of TCM to the world health has clearly demonstrated. The challenges, however, still exist in the application of TCM by the western medical society. The strategy to launch TCM is US/EU and recent experience with regulatory agency will be highlighted and provide a base for the further discussions.
