On behalf of the Sino-American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association (SAPA), I would like to welcome you to the 10th Annual Conference at the Edward Nash Theatre and Conference Center in North Branch, New Jersey. During the last nine years, SAPA has been growing steadily and become one of the best-regarded scientific organizations for scientists of Chinese heritage in the United States. The SAPA annual meeting has become a forum for pharmaceutical scientists to convene for exchanging ideas, learning the latest in the industry, looking for new career challenges.

This year, the organizing committee has put together an excellent program intended for the experts in the industry as well as the public that are interested in pharmaceuticals. We have assembled a list of distinguished executives in pharmaceutical industry and professors in leading universities to share with us their vision in this ever-changing field. The theme of this year's meeting is "Pharmaceutical Industry in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities" with discussions in the following topics:

Pharmaceutical Research and Development in the 21st century

SAPA Pharmaceutical Technology Symposium

Career Development and Entrepreneur Workshop

SAPA-ACPA Phytoceuticals and TCM Symposium

Chinese Biotech and Pharma Industry Symposium

It is also the organizers' intention to maximize the interactions between the meeting participants for networking. You are cordially invited to join us at the SAPA 10th annual dinner party on Saturday evening, August 3. During the dinner, SAPA will recognize 10 of its individual members who have made valuable contributions to the organization. The corporate award will go to Schering-Plough for their generous support of SAPA activities this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome a new member of SAPA family: SAPA-Great Philadelphia (SAPA-GP) chapter, founded in June, 2002 under the leadership of Dr. Bo Liang and Hancheng Zhang.

Finally, I would like to thank the organizing committee and all the volunteers who made this event possible. I hope you find the conference educational as well as enjoyable. With your support, we can better accomplish SAPA's mission of fostering personal and professional career development of its members, bridging the pharmaceutical exchanges and co-operation between China and the US, and promoting the pharmaceutical sciences and knowledge in every aspect.

Best Regards,

Li Chen, Ph.D.
