Dr. Salah U. Ahmed is the Senior Vice President of Research & Development, Barr Laboratories, Inc. Pomona, New York. He received his B. Pharm. (Hons), and M. Pharm from the University of Dhaka, Banladesh; MS in Industrial Pharmacy and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from St. John’s University, New York. He worked as an Industrial Pharmacist in Bangladesh, and as a Pharmacist with the Red Cross in Libya. After receiving his Ph.D., he worked in Forest Labs, as a Scientist. He then joined Barr Laboratories in 1993 as Director of Research and Development, and has gradually ascended to his current position.Dr. Ahmed has presented many papers in National and International scientific conferences. He has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications. His research interests involve physicochemical properties of pharmaceutical components and their effect on product attributes, statistical design and mathematical modeling in formulation development, protein/peptide and other special drug delivery systems.
Abstract In today’s competitive pharmaceutical market, the business success largely depends on the selection and execution of development pipeline. Selection of products, analysis of market, identification of partners and competitors are important issues in the development strategy. Harmonization of multiphase development activities among various disciplines is essential to maintain high productivity. Optimum planning to maximize the efficiency in development and speed up the product launch to the marketplace keeps the business as a front runner. Various commercial issues that should be considered during the developmental stages will be presented. |
